Peanut Butter Balls Recipe
Making Christmas candy has been a family tradition since I was a little girl. Mom would have waxed paper spread out over the whole table and the three of us girls would cover everything in chocolate. Pretzels, peanuts, mints, and these peanut butter balls. We would take everything to family gatherings along with our homemade pies and snack all day long. Of course us kids would be riding a sugar rush by 6pm and not want to eat supper!
So, today, I am sharing this peanut butter ball recipe with you! The kids helped me this year and loved to shape the balls and cover them in chocolate. What I love about it most is how many different variations you can do to create different textures and flavors. So use one of the optional add ins, or get creative and use something you have in the pantry that sounds good!
Items Needed for Peanut Butter Balls
Ingredients for Peanut Butter Balls
- 1 cup Peanut Butter – Creamy or Crunchy
- 2 cups Powdered Sugar
- 6 Tbsp Softened Butter
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Melting Chocolate
Optional Items – Pick your favorite!
Directions for Making Peanut Butter Balls
- Mix together peanut butter and butter.
- Stir in vanilla
- Add 2 cups of peanut butter (crunchy or creamy) and mix until crumbly. It should look something like the photo below.
4. Add an optional ingredient or two in to your heart’s desire. Crush, add, and mix. I made a batch with about 1 1/2 cups of Rice Krispies and another batch with 4 fun sized packs of m&ms. These ingredients we measure with the heart! If batter is too sticky, add a little more powdered sugar. If it is too dry, add a little more peanut butter.
5. Roll batter into walnut sized balls (or smaller!) I find they are pretty rich, so I like the smaller size. But whatever you prefer your peanut butter/chocolate ratio to be! Place on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper.
6. Freeze the balls for about 20 minutes until stiff for easier chocolate covering.
7. Melt chocolate, drop in peanut butter balls to cover them, remove from melted chocolate and place on waxed paper until hardened.
Enjoy!
