My Cleaning Routine

Is my house always clean? Heck to the NO! However, it is much easier to stay in the cleaning groove with a working cleaning routine. When I stay in my routine, the house stays cleaner for a longer period of time. If I fall out of the routine, I find it easier to jump back in and get my cleaning motivation back because I know what works best for my house and schedule. My cleaning routine consists of daily chores, weekly chores, and my deep cleaning list.

Daily Chores

These chores should only take 15-20 minutes total for the whole day. Of course, if I skip a day, they might take a bit longer! Sometimes I find them easier if I break them into morning and evening chores, while other times, I just do them all at once before bed.

  • Unpack Dishwasher
  • Pack Dishwasher (Wash pots and pans if needed)
  • Wipe Countertops
  • Pick up floor – toys/clothes/etc.

These chores are listed in my weekly planner to mark off when done!

Weekly Chores

These chores should be done at least once a week. Sometimes they need to be done more often depending on the traffic in the house. Again, if they are done more often, they take less time! They also go faster if I stay on top of keeping the house picked up.

  • Sweep/Vacuum – My DeeBot Robot vacuum really helps me stay on track with this. Especially because it helps when I do this 2 to 3 times a week!
  • Mop the Floor
  • Laundry – I’m the kind of person that piles it all up for one or two days.
  • Take out the Trash
  • Change Sheets

These chores are also listed in my weekly planner to mark off when done!

Deep Cleaning List

The Daily and Weekly Chores are what keep my house presentable and in working order. The Deep Cleaning List consists of those things I don’t notice at first, but if they don’t get done every once in awhile, things can really start to look dirty. The list is divided by room and has everything in that room that needs cleaned.

When I am in a cleaning mood, I start at the top of the list and do a few things at a time. Then the next time I go to my list, I pick up where I left off and work my way through the whole house this way. Once I’m at the bottom, I start back up at the top! Yes, there are a few things that might get done a little more often and out of order, but this list helps me make sure I at least get to everything once in awhile.

For example, the Living Room/Dining Room portion of my list consists of this:

  • Wash Windows and Patio Door
  • Clean Front Door
  • Vacuum Carpet and Furniture
  • Shampoo Carpet and Furniture
  • Dust light fixtures
  • Sweep/Mop Floor & Under Furniture
  • Remove Cobwebs/Wipe Walls
  • Wipe Down Baseboards
  • Dust Wall Decor and TV Stand
  • Wipe Down Table/End Tables
  • Wipe Dining Room Chairs

You can check out my whole list here, or make your own by going through each room and looking around and listing EVERYTHING that needs cleaned.

Make Your Cleaning Routine

Do you have a cleaning routine that works best for you? This routine is slightly based off the FlyLady cleaning system, but I found that a little too much for me. I’m also not that obsessed with keeping my sink clean. So I adapted it, and that’s what you need to do in order to make a system your own and work for you! Hope there is an idea or two in here that helps and if you just need a way to get yourself in the mood to tackle it all at once, check out this post!
