Why Use a Digital Planner in 2024

As we reach December, it always feels good to have a plan in place and feel organized, at least to start the next year. It is also great to have a system going so that when things get chaotic, its easy to get back into the system and keep going after a mess of a week (or month). That is why I am choosing to use a digital planner in 2024. These are the benefits I am looking forward to:

1) All the Pens, Markers, and Colors

My favorite part of journaling and planning? – Using ALL the colors. But then, I lose a pen or a marker and my weekly page isn’t the same throughout. Not to mention the price of buying all the different pens and highlighters. These issues don’t exist with digital planning. Plus, I can use digital stickers and washi tape galore without toting around a box full of supplies. I can be creative to my heart’s content with just one device.

2) It is Easily Accessible

Thanks the cloud, I can have my planner with me anywhere I go, even if I don’t have my iPad. I can just pull it up on my phone. I don’t plan on writing in my planner on my phone, but I can use my phone to check dates and make quick annotations to edit when I do have my iPad. When I use a paper planner, I don’t have it with me all the time as it has to sit on my desk at home.

3) Can Make Flexible Changes

Anyone else like their planner to look perfect? I do, but then, I write something wrong in pen and I can’t erase! With digital planning, I don’t have that problem. Place a sticker in the wrong place? Just select it and move it around to the place it needs to be!

4) More Information in Less Space

Have you seen how many pages are in a year long planner?! I purchased a daily planner in September, and it is over 2 inches thick! That’s a lot to carry around. Then if I wanted to add any extra pages for habit tracking, my planner would be even thicker! With the digital planner, it’s only the size of the tablet and I can add as many pages as I want.

5) It can Be Backed Up

A paper planner can be ruined, lost, or even destroyed. That cloud comes in handy again, and the planner file can be accessed even if the original device is broken.

6) Adding Links and Other Digital Media

With a digital file, links to important recipes, websites, and files can be added directly into my planner. There will be no need to go find the resource I’m looking for or talking about. I can put it right into the daily page I need it on. This will improve speed and organization.

Items Needed for Digital Planning

Of course, the biggest downside to digital planning is that the electronics needed do cost money. But, if you already have them, choosing to use a digital planner is just the next step. If you have the iPad (or other tablet) and a tablet pencil, download a note taking app and then the digital planner file.
