Celebrating Lent with Kids – Free Lenten Printable
Lent is the season in the church before Easter that lasts 40 days. It is a time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in order to prepare for the celebration of Easter. Through these practices, we try to reach an inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ’s will more faithfully.
Lent can be a difficult season to explain to kids. Advent is expectant and waiting for a baby, where Lent is about sacrifice and Jesus making the ultimate sacrifice for our ultimate reward. Maybe the best way to involve kids in Lent is to practice with them. Fast from something as a family or take on something together like volunteering or donating to a charity. Last year we gave up sweets together as a family, and the year before that we gave up TV time.
It is also becoming more common to keep track of the days of Lent with a Lenten calendar. It can be a beautiful wooden creation from an artist on Etsy, or as simple as a printable paper calendar. I created a blank calendar and an activity filled Lenten printable calendar for you to use for free! I am planning on using the activity filled one with the kids this year. Of course, I also have a few more freebies for you in this post! I love to journal and plan (digital and on paper) so I have also created some Lenten printable stickers that I use in my paper planner during Lent. They can also be used in a digital planner too! Click on the image below to download!
May you have a blessed Lenten season with your family this year!
